Product Description

"Lymphe-what?" That's what people say when they hear the word lymphedema. Yet an estimated 100 million people around the world suffer from this chronic condition, a result of damage to the lymphatic system. And the incidence is rising. Lymphedema affects women, men, and children, causing extreme swelling of a limb or other part of the body. With the swelling come pain, self-conciousness, reduced mobility, an increased susceptibility to infection, an a variety of other symptoms that make many people feel anxious and depressed.
In Coping With Lymphedema, Joan Swirsky and Diane Sackett Nannery provide comprehensive and up-to-date information about this little-known condition. Using clear, nontechnical language, they explain how lymphedema develops, its physical and psychological aspects, its impact on daily living, and the different treatments available. Also included are advice on how to find a qualified lymphedema therapist, information about diet and exercise, strategies for prevention, practical coping tips, and an extensive list of resources to help you find further information and assistance.
Here is a book that will help you understand and successfully manage the challenges that lie ahead. It will prove to be a resource that you can turn to time and time again for information, suggestions, and comfort.
